Dorking and Surrey Hills AONB

Nordic Walking Taster sessions, Nordic Walking courses and classes usually take place in Dorking and the Surrey Hills.

Dorking is a historic market town in the heart of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). It sits between Ranmore Common and Box Hill on the North Downs range of hills and Leith Hill on the Greensand Ridge.

The Surrey Hills was one of the first areas in England to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1958. The AONB covers over a quarter of the county – from Farnham in the west to Oxted in the east – and encompasses a huge variety of countryside, from beech woodlands and sandy heathland to open chalky downland stretches covered in yew and box.

This designation recognises the beauty of the landscape and ensures that it is properly conserved and managed for future generations to enjoy.

It is such a stunning area – it is all too easy to forget that it is just under 30 miles south of central London!
